War Games Exercise [Day 2, LM]

Post by Meiyokashi » Wed Oct 05, 2022 10:18 pm

Event Type: Main Event
Participants: Open to all.
Timeslot: Day 2, Late Morning

A fight with the Empire is on the horizon and the Rebuilders have more or less been caught with their pants down. Forced to only rely on those who are here at the Enclave now, and not the full of their strength with some members scattered still across the galaxy. Luckily they have Orar to whip them into shape. Having served for a number of years as a combat instructor he is a harsh hand but not an unfair one. Dragging the Rebuilders out to an open field not far from the enclave he has Dredgen and Veth assist him in running the rest of the group through drills to see where their current strength is weakest.

Everyone is encouraged to work first on their strengths while Orar pushes them hard and even goes so far as to grant additional obstacles. Waiting until everyone is good and sore from giving their all to show off where they're strongest to toy at where they're weakest. Trying his hardest to reveal these weak links so that they can be reinforced with refinement of the skill. Those of strength are encouraged to help guide those who are weakest in particular areas.

Hopefully by the end of this they might have a fighting force good enough to meet the danger of the task ahead of them.

  • Players will select 3 Skills from their list of Class Skills: First skill chosen must be what the PC is best at. Second skill chosen must be what the PC is next best at. Third skill chosen must be what the PC needs to improve on, and has no active ranks in. Should a PC have ranks in all their current Class Skills they may select from their list of Rank 1 skills.
  • First Two rolls are made at Hard Difficulty with Two Setback. ♦♦♦■■ [Setback are sourced from Environmental Hazards for purpose of negation.]
  • Third is made at Hard Difficulty. ♦♦♦
  • PC's gain a Free Rank in their Third Roll if all 3 selected rolls are Combat Skills, or from one of the following list: [Medicine, Leadership, Stealth, Perception, Vigilance, or Cool.]
  • PC's gain another Free Rank in their Third Roll if all rolls are successful.
  • Advantages grant boost dice at a ratio of 2 to 1. Triumphs grant Upgrades for each. These apply to the PC's Third Roll.
  • Threat inflict Strain at a ratio of 1 to 1.
[Denouement:]
Should the Rebuilders show that they have a varied assortment of skills they will gain 15 Duty toward the Training Facility.
  • A varied assortment means that the curve across all rolled skills is relatively flat. As well, there must be no Skill from the following which gets missed: All Combat Skills, Medicine, Leadership, Stealth, Perception, Vigilance, Cool.
Should the Rebuilders succeed more rolls than they fail, they gain another 15 Duty toward the Training Facility.

What was the best way to win a war? Cheating, of course!

While that was true it would probably be best if Suis found a more...aaaahhhh...palatable reasoning.

Deception and faints....yeah, yeah, that works. He was pretty sure someone, somewhere said so. Deception and information control seemed a sensible excuse to just cheat the training.

If he could deceive and work around the exercises Orar, Veth and Dredgen were organizing that proved that could work against the Empire, yeah? YEAH!

FLAWLESS LOGIC

So, a few minutes later when the training team had lost sight of the gungan and was wondering what he was doing, he came by Orar finishing eating the last of the man's sandwich to complement him on his choice of deli meats and rocketed away with his jetpack before he could be caught

''AAAAAAALLL PAAAAAAAART OOOOOF THE TRAAAAAAAINIIIIIING!!!!!!'' he could be heard yelling

Wargames: first skill, deception. Hard, two setbacks, convincing demeanorx2: 2eA+2eP+3eD 2 successes, 2 advantage

Wargames: second skill, skullduggery. Hard, two setbacks, convincing demeanorx2: 2eA+2eP+3eD 3 successes, 1 Triumph

This is what Forte trained for on the homeworld, he proceeds to show off his solid peacekeeping training.

He starts by giving words of encouragement to his allies, then he demonstrates the techniques with his father's weapon, then finally grapples and takes down the training dummy.

Griddak worshipped war at the altar of the Mando'ade, like any good Mandalorian. Rather than show off only combat capabilities, he decided to display for the others the proper way to ritually prepare for battle. He performed some of the basic rites and rituals for some of the other trainees and displayed his knowledge of Mandalorian battle tradition.

Once that was finished, the wookiee rushed headlong into the war games with a big old training sword so as to not dismember his war game partners. Unfortunately, the additional setbacks put in place by Orar and a much tougher target than what he'd normally find in battle got him off balance and he had a somewhat poor showing of his combat skills. Not that he actually cared about that, a Mandalorian only failed in combat if they deserted. He fought fiercely even if the target was difficult to defeat.

Finally, he took a bit of a breather and started going over different landscapes and terrains for different Outer Rim planets that might be important to know if they ever took their forces there. He recalled quite a few surprisingly.

Despite being among the younger members of the Enclave, Raven was incredibly capable and skilled when it came to melee fighting. "Just gotta use what you got to the best of your advantages, as well as the terrain. Don't try to overpower someone stronger than you - fight smarter, not harder."

She was a decent shot too, but today her aim was a bit off. Not quite hitting the mark where it's supposed to be. Still, she was able to give good pointers to the others, and kept her cool pretty well during it all even when things weren't working out as much as they usually did. Maybe it was a little surprising to some that Raven was capable of analyzing what she did wrong, and apply that to others as valuable teaching.

Rook watched the rest of the enclave begin their drills, taking a moment to take it all in. She then stepped forward, adjusting her armor and activating her cascader. Her voice carried clearly across the field.

"Everyone! I've cone to know each of you, in one way or another. I do not need to tell you that you are great warriors, as you show that every day. I do not need to encourage you to do your best, as you do that with every breath. I do not need to show you the way, as we all know it in our hearts. I will simply tell you that I stand with you, as we will always stand together. And, once you are done, lunch will be waiting."

With that said, she turned her attention to her little mobile kitchen and began to cook. It took some time to set it all up and prepare the stew. It wouldn't have been a challenge if anything had been prepared in advance.

Unfortunately, that meant sone were finished with their drills before their meals were ready. But, a friendly smile, a few soothing words, and perhaps a promise or two, and they agreed to wait patiently while she finished

Soleene thought she was ready for anything this morning but the exercise with Orar has clearly proven that wasn't the case. She started off with some hand-to-hand fighting. While she was skilled with her hands and feet, she was less familiar with that even with the extra boosts the servos were giving her. She had a bit of difficulty managing her strength but still manage to put on a decent performance. It wasn't her best but that just gave her the excuse to work on that in the next few days.

The next exercise was to work on her personality or rather fearsomeness. This was where Soleene began to fumble, especially when she tried to vocalize and look fearsome through her buckethead. Orar merely shook his head and then moved on along.

While others were bolstered with confidence with their other trails, Soleene perhaps felt more bolstered to recover from her slump! A Mandalorian is nothing if they can't return to their feet and improvise! She was watchful and at the ready. This was going to be useful in the next few days...

While Clay thought about using the technique of the Master of Shadows, but was just a training exercise and he had other things he was more focused on anyways. He looked at the area he was in, then checked the settings of his Optical Camouflage System. He then turned it on and moved stealthily through to shot some stuff.

Next was the combat part. He was a pretty decent shot. He was Genetically Engineered, so brawn and agility were things his body was built for originally. He was also looking forward to playing around with his new weapons. A Vibrorapier and X-30 Lancer Pistol.

Cassie stood up next to Orar. "Singe line, pick a pair, put your back into it!" She yelled like an assistant huttball coach, ready to give out orders.

Then she saw Orar eyeing him.

"What."

"You too Fett. In the line, put your back into it."

"But I thought I'd help you."

"You'll help me by doing the work."

The woman sighed and joined in with the rest. She was in tip-top fighting shape, for Kryze's sake! Still, she gave out the best advice ever, laying down her cunning plan.

"A pre-emptive frontal charge at the Imperials would be the best solution. Surprise them."

She was not sure why the others were putting their hands on their faces. It was a good plan.

"Fett, just...stand over there and be quiet." Surprised by Orar showing up behind her, Cassie grumbled but did as told.

Varina was many things. As a total delinquent, she could go so many places without being spotted at all. Even all the stupid things Orar set up did nothing to impede her since she had been to so many places! Take that, indoor teens!

Of course, overconfidence related to something slow and insidious. "Oh I'm supposed to find the target? It's over there." Totally obvious, so much so that she had the audacity to slink over to Mayrelli to steal, well, her most prized shotgun. "Just going to borrow this for a sec." Then she leveled it and pulled the trigger.

Well, that left a big hole somewhere it shouldn't. She tossed it over to Mayrelli then slinked away. Not her fault. Nope. Mayrelli had definitely miscalibrated it.

Cha does his best to show off his unique set of skills, even if the adjustments to his armor have comfortably close to failing recently. This time, however, the equipment works flawlessly. No one sees him coming until the clank of a grenade pings against metal. There is a short pause before his opponent his trapped in a thick cloud of expanding and hardening foam. The problem is, Cha isn't quite dextrous enough and he gets caught up a bit on trying to retreive the reusable capsule. What follows is a long stretch of practicing his coordination while being off balance from the extra weight and bulk on him.

Garen was known as a strong warrior, able to crush all sorts of things with his big hammer. This was never in question, and he displayed as much during the training today.

What was less known was his ability to take punishment. Garen stood between two other trainees, arms up in a defensive posture. The other two held training sticks... which for Mandalorians were basically truncheons.

"Hit me." He rumbled, nodded. The other two didn't hesitate.

With armor, a Mandalorian didn't need to shy from combat, from pain. Garen absorbed blows with forearms, his chest, even the reinforced crest of his helmet, taking the hits on the strongest parts. One heavy blow left the striker's fingers numb; Garen snatched the truncheon away.

"See?" He said, casually tossing it back to him. The other two nodded, then they circled, changing positions. Garen was tough, but so was every Mandalorian, and the others were ready to take their turn as training dummy.

Under the Ti'tuk sun, Fitz labored away. He was talented with combative skills, but his strengths had always been in a supporting role from the back. Veth set out a series of weapons malfunctions and broken gear to be fixed (likely backlog from the Repair Bay). He was able to clear most of the issues, but some of the weapons were beyond repair in his opinion.

After that, he was pulled aside to help with the others in training who were falling out from heat stroke and fatigue. Everyone was pushing themselves in the training and it was showing. There wasn't a lot he could do to help. The only thing he could think of was to send them inside for rest and maybe an IV drip. In the end, he sent them back to their respective trainers and obstacles.

The difficulty of this training and the obstacles he couldn't overcome did show Fitz the limits of his abilities and motivate him to push harder. When Orar shuffled the trainees and he ended up in front of a heavy blaster rifle, he strapped on the weapon harness and let loose on the targets at the end of the range. He felt a sense of redemption and satisfaction seeing several silhouettes fall under his fire.

Training was boring. It was like working out or doing taxes like just some kriff you had to do, not that Lysa had ever filed taxes in her life, working for a crime boss would do that. But she understood the concept.

But wargames, wargames sounded fun!

She started off, of course, by making a bomb. The neon Mando was over at a work bench with a collection of rather mundane cleaning materials and household objects. Her utility arm worked quick handing her things, tightening screws she had missed. When she was done the small innocuous parcell seemed almost quaint. Until she threw it down range and the resulting explosion took chunks from the plascrete in addition to eliminating the targets.

Next someone handed her a knife and put some poor sod in front of her. See Lysa didn't have a training speed which is why she was never given a live knife. Her style also consisted of running full speed at her target and stabbing furiously at vitals with little regard to her own safety or defending herself. The person across from her could be bigger, stronger, better, Lysa cared little and this guy was no different. They yielded after the second time Lysa jabbed the plastic practice blade at their kidney.

They found someone else for hand to hand where somehow Lysa was more feral jumping on her much larger opponent and battering them about the neck and head, being thrown off and doing the exact same thing again.

Orar shook his head at the display but ultimately admired the spirit and gave Lysa some tips about her unarmed "style"

Apparently the discovery of a miniature cloaked probe droid had rattled the Gunslinger. Something wore on his mind as he moved through the training course.

His normal sharp shooting was just not there, and then being agile had been more rough. But apparently the frustrations of failing both showed as he went to practice with the Z-6 rocket launcher.

And nailed the last one.

Mayrelli demonstrates the ancient art of speeder jousting. Wildly impracticable but with a proud history stretching back many moments, it will hopefully bring the Rebuilders victory

Curve was not Flat, high of 6 and low of 1 across all pertinent skills.

More success's were gained than failures, however, and thus 15 Duty will be allotted toward the Training Facility. I will drop the cost from 30 to 15 to reflect this on the main page.
