[Day 3 - Late Afternoon] Set Them Up, Knock Them Down

Soleene was deserving of a break from her duties from time to time, although it was a question of whether or not she'll find it in herself to relax. Her feet stepped into the room and immediately found the wood floors a bit out of place as there were some small faint creaks on the boards. It was a built simulation of normalcy, she supposed, but only for those who were used to the feeling of the 'old-fashioned'. Her attention did gravitate toward the pool table, something she was a bit more familiar with. After a bit of fishing around, she began to rack up the balls for a round or two.

The visit to New Hope had been tiring. The stress of dealing with people, especially sick or wounded people, was a different kind of beast from battle. What he needed now was a little R&R before the mission this evening.

He was surprised to see Solene at the table as he entered the Rec Room. She was young and fairly new, so Fitz knew little about her except she had a fondness for swords. Now seemed as good a time as any to become better acquainted.

"Would you like... an opponent?" He asks in his gruff voice.

Soleene had perhaps just finished setting up for a game when she was approached by Fitz. She looked curiously at him with raised brows before giving a small smirk. "Hey doc. Opponent? Well, I don't know if I could give that in return. I was thinking of playing around and giving this a try. For fun, you know. You're more than welcome to join me. Do you usually play?"

"Usually?... No, not much time, but... I enjoy the challenge."

He steps over to examine the cues before selecting one. "Some will just... hit it hard as they can... and hope one lands... It is a game... of angles, of strategy."

He eyes the triangle of balls with an approving nod. "Your rack, your break."

"Tackling on a challenge is probably a good way to go about it. I'm sure we have a shipload of challenges ahead of us but sure would be nice to do something that doesn't have some stakes on the line. Well, bragging aside and all of that, heh." She snickered at that thought.

Soleene walked over to take up a cue and lifted the rack after they were properly aligned. She leaned over and prepared her shot to start the game. "When you break it down like that, it almost sounds so simple..."

Crack!

The balls clattered against each other and bounced in every direction without giving her a clear set-up shot. Ultimately, her first shot would not land anything.

"...So, do you have any thoughts about our current situation?" she brought up curiously.

"Simple to learn... difficult to master,... like many things in life." Fitz takes a moment to survey the table before lining up consecutive shots, managing to sink four solids before he leaves one short.

"Like battle... Look at the field... Choose your targets... And execute." He looks at the aftermath of his play and sees he had left an opening for Solene, "And expect mistakes..."

Soleene let out a low whisper and gave a few impressed bobs of her head. "Very well done, now I'm pretty glad I didn't bet anything down the line. Either you've done this a lot or you're a natural. But yeah, practice makes perfect, I guess? Although I'd say that what's happening now with the Imperials is more of a test than practice."

She gave her next opportunity a try, snagging a few balls before she misses her shot.

Fitz considered her words and her play at the table.

"A test of our worth?... As far as our... situation,... I'm glad... This planet is nice... but we shouldn't be... so isolated..." Fitz takes his shot, perhaps focusing more on the conversation and the tiresome task of speaking aloud than on the game, sinking his intended ball, but also knocking two of Soleene's in. Although his face was hidden, it could be guessed what type of expression he was making after that fumble.

Straightening up and adding unnecessary chalk to his cue, he continues, "How are we supposed to... recruit foundlings here?... True, we can't... stroll around the Core... but it's because we are so few... that we should focus... on bringing in more." He somehow manages to blow off the excess chalk from his cue (there didn't appear to be any air holes at the mouth of his mask) and stepped aside so Soleene could line up her shot. "After we find that Helm... I want to travel more... bring more into the fold."

"Yes but it probably seems more like a test of our survival, considering with all of us here and only so many of us, we're pretty much rounded up for the Imperials. I'm not so sure if this place is meant for a stay in the long-term, unless we have a fleet of ships that can stand toe-to-toe with a few Imperials Star Destroyers." It was a bit of a curious statement, as she truly didn't know if there the Enclave had an ace in the hole to this bet, so to speak.

"That would be easier if we had a long-term home of our own, rather than making trying to find a home in others. We are pretty strong nomadically but it does make finding us difficult. It would be nice to finally have a place where we can point others when speaking about the Enclave. You wouldn't be part of that finding effort would you?"

With that Soleene took a short and her cue completely missed her mark. She looks a bit annoyed but stepped back to give Fitz his turn.

Fitz sets aside his pool cue a moment to focus on the conversation, "For such a small force... movement is life... In a perfect galaxy... we could have a home,... but for now I think... too much risk... If it was my call... we'd leave Ti'rok now... come back later for the Helm."

He starts to lean against the table, but stops himself and takes a few steps back to lean against the metal fencing.

She nodded a few times at that. "Well, I won't disagree that it seems like a smart play. Run today and fight tomorrow. I'm sure that is the play, in the long run, we're only staying as long as we need to. But I'm also going to assume that there's some urgency in what we're doing and I'm sure they're also onto what we're going, this might be our only chance."

She glanced off with a thought. "It kind of works out, in a way. I don't know if you've been to that settlement not too far from here. In a way, I think we're taking up all the heat from them but I'm not too sure if it's exactly safe for them to stay either."

Fitz seems to ponder what Soleene says for a moment before returning to the table to take his turn. "You make a good point... New Hope would be more... vulnerable without us."

The old Fitz would've scoffed at the idea of risking his and his people's safety for a gathering of ne'er-do-wells and fringers. Life among the Syndicates was a hound eat hound kind of life. Now though, after living among the Mandalorians and taking on their ways, he was wary of outsiders and put even more emphasis on the safety of his people, but also left room for consideration instead of outright abandonment. How could he completely give up on outsiders when he himself was once one.

"I suppose... that is why I follow... and Mandalore leads."

Setting his sights on a difficult shot, Fitz stretches over the table to try and get an angle, but ends up scratching the cue ball.

"They would be...and I know I'm not exactly high on the chain to make that call but I do find myself wondering if we should be telling them to make preparations to leave or potentially take them with us." She let out a sigh after a beat. "Obviously, we can't take them with us as we can barely take ourselves anywhere at the moment. With a name with New Hope, I bet they probably thought this was like...you know, a New Hope and didn't call it Temporary Home."

Soleene said nothing other than giving a few knowing nods when found her opening. It seemed that she had quite a bit of ground to make up from her fumble earlier. She leaned over at the table and tried to angle a shot but ultimately didn't do anything overly ambitious, she just needed to score a few quick points. Slow and steady wins the race, said someone.
