[Day 6, ME] Strange Bedfellows

[Meiyokashi]

A young woman wearing robes known to a few of the Rebuilders walks the halls. Any concern given her direction is quickly snuffed out when they see the Armorer not far behind shadowing his party guest. Meanwhile, Ilena herself halfheartedly searches for Mayrelli among the helms and faces. This was a far stranger place than she could have expected, yet she presses on.

[Rook Yorrick]

At this point, most of the feast had been served and all that Rook needed to do was replenish anything that was running low. She was more relaxed now, and more sociable.

She paused as she crossed the path of their guest and smiled. "Good evening. Are you enjoying everything?"

[Meiyokashi]

"Evening, I- no. I mean that I haven't," she pauses, trying to soothe down the warmth building in her chest. "I haven't had anything yet. Just arrived, actually. I was being shown around a bit- I'm.." she breathes. There's a jitteriness to her hand that doesn't hide her heightened anxiety from being within such a closed space.

A place where she could be trapped. Cornered.

[Rook Yorrick]

Rook wasn't sure who the woman was or why she seemed flustered, but she was welcome in the enclave and should be shown that.

"Come with me." she offered a hand. "Some good food and good company should be just what you need."

[Meiyokashi]

Ilena was wary of the hand, watching it for a lot longer than most folk would. Distrustful as she was. Still, that only amounted to seconds and it allowed for her to still push herself to seize the opportunity. Accepting Rook's hand with all the weight of what that meant for her.

[Rook Yorrick]

She smiled brightly and led the woman towards the food.

"I've made a wide variety of dishes tonight. Many of us originate from different cultures and, thus, have different tastes. I am sure you will find something you'll enjoy, savory, sweet, spicy and more. There's something for every tongue."

"Tonight is a celebration, of all we have overcome and of what we will accomplish. It is a rare opportunity to indulge ourselves, and relax. Everyone needs the chance to set their concerns aside, even for a few fleeting moments."

Her words carried reassurance, confidence and a sense of authority. Every thing was fine. No need to stress.

[Meiyokashi]

"In the academy I never experienced anything like this," Ilena says, her mind partially absent as it wonders over the myriad of food choices available. Smells that filled the nostrils with hunger. "We came from all over, but we were all too young to have brought.. well, culture I suppose is the proper word for it but it sounds strange to say," she says with an absent confidence. A woman swimming on the deep end while she thought she was still on the kiddie side.

"You truly made all of this yourself?"

[Rook Yorrick]

"It took me all day." she shrugged. "I enjoy cooking though. I always have. Would you like some suggestions?"

[Meiyokashi]

"I.. am not surprised, otherwise I doubt you would do it so much" she says, happily. Forgetting herself, the years, for a second at least. "What would you suggest?"

[Rook Yorrick]

"The nuna legs are simple, but very good, whether fried or roasted." she said. "If you'd like to start with something lighter, there's a meiloorun fruit salad that's quite refreshing."

[Meiyokashi]

Ilena follows Rook around by the pull of her taste buds. All the whole, the Armorer is not far away either. Though he was, as he liked, allowed his solitary space to exist alongside the others and always holds the slight distance from everyone. Gloomy as it might seem, he was content and happy to experience the feast this way.

They would make merry together, and by the end of their time Rook could feel that Ilena wasn't simply forgetting to be uneasy around her, but that she felt safer with a new friend.
