[Day 4, EE: Event] Making Deals

by Meiyokashi
Event Type: Main Event
Participants: Open to all.
Timeslot: Day 4, Early Evening.

With the last couple of weeks coming to an end, the foraying portion of the engagement has ended. The Empire knows that the Rebuilders are in this section of the planet and are planning to set up show. Though the Rebuilders have done a lot of work already with what they have, it's clear and apparent that they'll need more. Considering the trouble affects everyone in the region Mandalore has okayed a plan to beseech the people of the nearby colony for aid to support the enclave into the coming conflict.

In this event, players will choose one of two paths. They will either choose to deal with the settlers Honorably or Dishonorably. Should more players choose to proceed Dishonorably the relations between the Rebuilders and settlers of New Hope will sour considerably. Should more players choose to proceed Honorably those who dealt Dishonorably with the settlers will be singled out and gain an Antagonist Obligation valued at 5.

Players who select the "Dishonorably" options will additionally gain 5 Personal Duty by pushing the colonists further than they are willing to go.

Honorably:

Players choosing to deal with the settlers of New Hope must choose one of the following options. Players will roll only ONE of the following.

Negotiation @ Hard: Players will barter some of the supplies that they have uncovered from the reconstruction efforts that they don't need but may be of use to a blossoming colony. With a skilled use of the tongue agents of the Rebuilders should be able to find someone who has a need that they can fill.

Charm @ Hard: Sometimes simply asking sweetly is the best policy. Many of the colonists here have an energy of helping one another, and with the proper words given their way they are sure to see the benefit of having a strong Mandalorian presence so close to home.

Medicine @ Hard: Sickness, injury, these are common threats faced by colonists and with their local doctor currently missing those of the Rebuilders who have a proficiency in the medical arts should be able to trade their skills for some aid.

Dishonorably:

Coercion @ Hard: Sometimes people just need to be leaned on a little bit to give over what they are reluctant to share. Threatening word here, a little muscle there, it's all in the name of Mandalore and for the enclave in the end.

Deception @ Hard: Sure, maybe what you said wasn't strictly true. Maybe no one actually sent you for these supplies to deliver across the colony. Not your fault if they're a little too trusting, right? Besides, it's going to a good cause in the end. They'll thank you when the Empire gets a black eye by the end of this.

Skullduggery @ Hard: Sometimes it's just down to the dirty dealing of getting through a door that was meant to stay locked. I mean, people only really buy locks to give you the challenge to take their stuff right? It's like a game. They'll understand.

Results:

5 success' on your roll grants an additional 5 Duty. Advantages convey better personal relations with the individual, this will be a subtle change but noted on. Triumph will also confer an additional 5 Duty. Threat causes the roller to take on Strain.

by Cha Vizsla
Any sort of debate as to how to act was simple situational calculus for Cha, and everything in his experience dictated his response. Cha had been raised in the Death Watch, the group the saw itself as fearful raiders operating on a simple philosophy: "Want. Take. Have."

While he liked to believe that his time before the Rebuilders had broadened his horizons it had been time spent with the scum and villainy of the new Empire. To him, they were already in a wartime situation and a delaying action at that. If the Empire wanted to put any real sustained and concerted effort to wipe out the Rebuilders, they would lose. At the absolute best case scenario, the Empire would decide that they had bigger fires to put out elsewhere and wasn't worth the push.

Cha liked the New Hopers just fine, but Mandalorian they weren't. If a few extra supplies went and vanished the colonists would either never know, would be overrun by Imps (making it officially not his problem anymore), or would be slightly sour towards a group of neighbors with lots of weapons. Cha could live with all three, but he's also not blind. The community is pretty picked over. He gets a few loose odds and ends, but nothing particularly grand, but makes some inroads with some of the local thieves.

by Raven Cadera
Having spent time with the New Hopers, learning their situation and helping out a little, Raven considered them to be allies. And she had learned from her time with the Rebellion, and on Kamda and Bellionas, that having allies outside of the Rebuilders was a vital thing. There were things aruetii could accomplish easier than the Mando'ade, and vice-versa.

The New Hopers had trust enough in Raven to listen to her words, and she appealed to the fact that the Empire would not give them the kindness or help that the Mandalorians had provided to them thus far.

by Garen Saxon
Before he was a Mandalorian, Garen was an engineer. That meant that he wasn't really about dealing with people. He was about making things work, quietly, and without making any sort of a fuss about it.

So, what if the things that weren't working were people? Garen hadn't been trained in medicine, but he'd had basic first aid training, and he'd read a few manuals. It was enough to get by.

And so, for a few hours, Garen acted as doctor. Well, more like a nurse, really. His strong, quiet presence seemed moderately reassuring, anyway.

by Soleene Stryss
Soleene was rather used to intimidating people and being the imposing figure in the conversation. She knew that they didn't exactly have a lot of time to make friends to get people on their side, especially with so much of the population being on the fence when it came to betting on the Mandalorians. It would have been all too easy to put some sense in them. However, the Enclave also had enough enemies and she didn't want to be looking over her shoulder all the time or expect something to be thrown at her. So, she decided to try her hand at playing nice.

Unfortunately, there seemed to be a disconnect between being a fully-armoured Mandalorian and trying to appease the crowd to their side. At least, that's what Soleene was going to blame the issue on when her patience ran short on the matter and she started getting more aggressive with her pitch. That obviously did her no favours here.

Fitz did as he has been in recent days. He reported in at the New Hope clinic and began seeing patients. His 'bedside manner' had even made some improvements thanks to all the time he spent with the colonists, as well as his communication skills.

Tending to injuries varying from minor abrasions to broken limbs, Fitz worked studiously and efficiently. He regularly offered extended services as a cyberneticist, at a considerable discount from what those in the core worlds would find, but so far none had taken him up on his offer.

Clay doesn't mine dealing with his own injuries and the view of his own blood, but he's not fond of the sight of other people's blood. But, he'd been in plenty of fire fights and in racing long enough to see plenty of gruesome injuries in his day.

With his intellect and past experiences, Clay did help as many people as he could while there. Working until the sights got the best of him.

Suis'louche came to town with two pieces of wisdom in mind.

The first one was simple: you don't go poodoo where you eat or anywhere near it.

The second one he had learned on the streets during his previous career: No weapon is a efficient as the finger gun

That gun ran on suave, shot bullets of cool...and he had two of them

Strolling through town he talked to a few key people and settled some ongoing situations with a wink, a drink and his magic hand weapons.

But like all clever folks he used his ammo sparingly.

Final Result: 0 success, 3 advantage.

On previous days, Forte did quite a bit of work to make certain this town had what it needed. Unfortunately, that also meant that he didn't have time to converse with the higher ups in the town. However, there are enough construction workers who remember his name well enough, maybe this will have an impact on things later. For now though, this town doesn't have much more to give to just another kind face.

by Lysa Ordo
Lysa was sure to be there to help out. She loved helping. She had hoped they needed like construction work done, specifically demolitions work, or like stabby work.

But when it came down to it this was a pretty boring assignment. They just needed like a medic or doctor or something to help out.

Lysa had never studied medicine but she had been hurt alot and therefore had a ton of first hand knowledge of treatment for various burns, bruises, cuts, scrapes, broken bones, ect. All hard earned by having others do them to her first!

So she worked in a makeshift clinic for a bit slapping on bandaids and telling people how to fix their various ailments and wounds.

Most were feeling physically better but many left the clinic either mentally drained from the energy Lysa put off or slightly traumatized from her more, detailed recountings of her similar injuries.

by Griddak Madclaw
Griddak does the best that he can to assist those who are helping the people of New Hope with medical concerns. Not because he knows anything about medicine, but mostly because he's not one to be a jerk about this kind of thing, and a good portion of the population likely isn't going to be able to even understand him if he tried talking too much. Understanding shyrriwook is far more common among his comrades than in a smallish settlement.

If anything, simply the fact that he is clearly an obvious warrior and he's choosing to assist with healing those who need it probably says more about the fact that he's here to help then anything else. Which isn't saying much among a group of warriors, but it does say something small he supposes.

by Haat Eldar
Keeping a good relationship with your neighbours is all good and important and nice. Haat sure knew that - and Raven reminded them of that just this morning.

To know that as a fact was one thing. To know or understand how to do it (or care, some might say) was another thing altogether, of course. Honeyed words, niceties, that was all so far from most of their experiences they probably couldn't do it right even if they tried.

And they needed things done. So why even try to do things in a way you know doesn't work? Even if they were to protect the colony itself, how could they do that by coaxing and adulation?

No... that wouldn't do. So they resorted to what they knew worked best. Firm words. Forceful, if need be. Shows of strength. A subtle threat here and there if there's too much hesitation.

Some folks with some mechanic skills seemed willing enough - might or might not come to something. But it was a tall, sturdy lady who took the most effort - and at the same time gave more promising results.

Laan the Lumberjill was just as stubborn as Haat was bold, and their conversationturned first into an argument, then almost a shouting match. But by the end of it - maybe precisely convinced by Haat's unfliching pluck - Laan was ready to lend some support, maybe even turn in a good word here and there.

A strange way to make 'friend', to be sure. And maybe one other colonists wouldn't approve of so much...

Total of 40 Community Duty has been gained in this event, the Rebuilders feel prepared for the coming conflict!

Relations with the town have improved. The helms of Mandalorians are a welcome sight within the boundaries of town. Trust between the two peoples begin to take root.

Cha and Haat receive 5 personal Duty each. However, while the town welcomes them still due to these trying times there are the looks of those who have been aggrieved. When this current conflict has passed the two should think twice before returning to New Hope.
