Adventure Chef (Day 3, MM-LM)

[Rook Yorrick]

Rook wanted to experiment more with the local flora and fauna, to create new dishes unique to the Violet Forest. Others had brought fish and game to her to prepare and she was always delighted to do so. But, she had become curious as to what else might be out there. So, she ventured out in the morning to explore.

[Griddak Madclaw]

Griddak joined Rook for the morning hunt, being an appreciator of good food. She'd be more than aware by now that he lived his best carnivore life, so it was only fair for him to bring in enough meat to feed a hungry wookiee... which was a good amount.

[Rook Yorrick]

"With the cool weather we've been having, perhaps I should make a chili for dinner." the Tholothian mused. "Something with a little heat to take the chill off. What do you think, my friend?"

[Griddak Madclaw]

He growls his agreement, and suggests she make a small separate batch not quite so spicy for some of the folks that have no taste buds. He chuffs merrily at his observation that some people have different senses of taste, something someone as old as him must have realized through trial and error.

She listened carefully and there was a silent pause before she nodded. "That's why I didn't want to just make tiingilar again. By Mandalorian tradition, that's as spicy as possible. It's good once in a while. But, you can't expect everyone to eat it all the time. That's like telling a bird never to land."

[Griddak Madclaw]

Griddak agrees with that, saying he enjoys spicy but that level every day would ruin any person's stomach. The wookiee then asks what got Rook into cooking in the first place.

[Rook Yorrick]

"My father." she answered with a smile. "Dad's the chef. Cooked for people on a thousand worlds and learned something new from all of them. Mom's an anthropologist and linguist. I traveled al over the galaxy with them."

[Griddak Madclaw]

The old wookiee jokes that his ethnocentric view of the mando'ade must have some truth to it if someone chose to settle down with the Mandalorians after seeing so many cultures. Then he clarifies that a lot of Mandalorian cooking actually came from other cultures after the Taung stopped being the primary species of the culture, at least as far as he understands the stories. Some historical Mandalorians, certainly not the most famous, became popular because of their contributions to aspects of culture other than war. He gives the example of tiingilar as being a dish from a different culture, but adopted as a tradition because of the work of Strono Tuggs, who is not even Mandalorian. He then explains how he first met Strono well before the introduction of tingilar, back when he and a team of Saxon warriors did some work for Maz when he was a young man, saying that that woman definitely had a thing for wookiees that made most wookiees that knew her a bit uncomfortable, explaining that she's always going on about the warrior Chewbacca, calling him her boyfriend.

"Cookie's the one who taught me how to make it." she grinned. "But, I never could convince him to give me his full recipe. My traveling the galaxy ended when the Imps occupied Tholoth. It was one of the rare periods when mom and dad were on the planet, at home. I was away at school on Lorrd. Mom wanted me to have a formal education."

[Griddak Madclaw]

Griddak says he's glad she got to travel and see the galaxy. Explaining that he tried to get his daughters out and about the galaxy before they eventually got their armor, he seems a bit pleased and nostalgic, apparently quite proud of his children. He says that eventually the Rebuilder would get the entire mando'ade to follow him, but for now they're doing good work with the Eldar. He also asks how Cookie is doing, since it's been a couple decades and he assumes she's seen him far more recently.

"He seemed fine." she smiled. "Surly, as usual, but I've always felt he's friendlier than be seems. I don't think you can be that good of a cook without liking those you cook for. Food that good just encourages them to come back. You wouldn't do that for people you dislike. It's like inviting a bee to sting you."

"I'd like to meet your daughters. I bet they're just like you. They hunt too, I assume?"

[Griddak Madclaw]

He nods, agreeing that he probably stays surly to keep people out of his kitchen, so he can cook in peace. Griddak then explains that they are hunters and close combat specialists just like him. Though he also explains that Madclaws choose their clan when they come of age. Their great grandmother was the first and was taken in by Ordo, their grandparents were Eldar, Griddak is Saxon and they took after their grandmother.

Pointing out that Madclaws are very small in number, he says they choose different clans now but he hopes that one day there may be enough to be a clan of their own. His family is apparently made up mostly of freed slaves or exiles that joined the Mando'ade, and Griddak is only the second natural born Mandalorian wookiee with his daughters being third and fourth. But they don't get much interaction among other wookiees because of cultural differences with Kashyyk.

"I can imagine." she nodded. "My shyriiwook is a bit limited, but I do hear the accent. I hope to see Clan Madclaw one day."

"I wonder what my parents will think of what I've become." she mused. "Even before Orar found me and brought me into the enclave, I had changed quite a bit. They'll be surprised, I'm sure. But, I wouldn't be the first Yorrick to follow their own path."
