Touching Base [D2, EM]

[Raven Cadera]

With their findings from the previous day, Raven figured that it would be best to reach out to Veth. She had heard the chief mechanic had an interest in a particular area, and figured that she might have some ideas about it. Maybe even knowledge that would prove useful to finding the colony's missing mechanic.

Stepping inside the repair bay, she looked around for where Veth currently was.

[Garen Saxon]

Garen accompanied Raven, wearing both his armor and his usual somewhat serious expression.

Comfortable in the repairbay, he nevertheless waited, letting Raven take the lead. Youth had such energy, after all.

[Meiyokashi]

They wouldn't find her immediately, at least not by sight. Within the repair bay that Veth claimed sole ownership over everything was a storm of a mess circling its eye around the besalisk sitting amongst the other junk at the very center. Half-wrecked droid corpses were strewn about the place with much of their internals gutted for anything useful. There were also some more basic tools, sensor devices stripped, and all sorts of just utter mechanical chaos.

They would, of course, find Veth first by her letting out a string of swears that encompasses Basic, Mandalorian, Huttese, and another language or two but it drifts off that they aren't particularly recognizable. Veth would be set out in front of a have shorn off speeder bike and was ripping through it's internals when she'd apparently nicked herself on something sharp.

Raven grimaced slightly as she forced a smile, hearing the litany of curses and swearwords. She'd heard worse before, or at least she thought she had as she couldn't recognise all the words coming, but there was always something about catching people at a bad time... like this.

"Hey, you ok?" she offered as she and Garen came around to where she was, taking stock of the situation.

Garen came up to join her, but again, let her take the lead.

[Veth Eldar]

"Yea yea," she says, already checking to see how deep the cut was and how in danger of needing to go explain herself to Jan she was. It was a small cut, but with her hand that deep in the machine when she got it who knows what kind of grime could have gotten in there. Sighing heavily she hesitates on the thought for a moment but, "Kriff, I'm gonna need to go to Jan later. This is gonna cut into time.." she grumbles, breathes, and soothes herself quickly.

"Anyway- whatever. Somethin' I can talk and care about later, what's up Garen?" she asks, looking to him first, then the newer gal, "Raven," she adds, quite like a afterthought.

[Garen Saxon]

"Hey, Veth." Garen said, smiling. "This model's always trouble, eh?"

He cleared his throat... they had a mission, but there was also a job that needed doing... "We wanted to ask you about the situation out with those old ruins... you want me to take a look?" Midway through his sentence, Garen cut from one topic to the next, nodding to the speederbike. "Second pair of hands, get the next task out of the way before you get that bandaged? I know that's the sort of thing that'd bother me the whole time the doc was looking me over."

Garen got that stern look of 'you're bullshitting me and you know it' due to the fact that neither of them could actually be all too sure exactly what this "model" even was anymore, and that was kinda the point. Rolling her eyes she huffs, her arms crossing over her chest as she listens.

Taking a look around as he pitches their bit, she shrugs, "So, here's the deal-" she says, and waves off with her other hand any concern about the injured one for the moment. Walking them over to the Basilisk proper- a truly refined piece of a hunk of junk if you asked Veth, "this thing is old old, right? So what I've been having to do is scrap out most of what I can find outta newer stuff.. kriff around with it, mangle it even, all to get these metallic guts to fit into the Basilisk the way they were supposed to, right? Makin' newer stuff fit into it the way the older stuff was supposed to, you get me?" she asks, raising a brow.

Assuming they didn't, she adds, "It's like tryna get your old speeder charged- but all the stations have upgraded for newer speeders and no one ain't got the right cables anymore."

[Garen Saxon]

"Have you got a list of what you still need?" Garen asked.

He did move over to where Veth had been working on the speeder. "I knew I'd seen this type before. It's a real mess." He said. Sometimes Garen's sense of humor was a bit... dad.

[Veth Eldar]

"List? Naw, well- there is one thing," she says, and waves them over to the front of the Basilisk. Popping open what the head of the machine would be she shows off a little empty spot. "In here is where they install the cyber-brain kinda thing," and then points to a nearby table with a spare wrench in her hand. "Now that beauty over there is the cyber brain but do me a favor and take a good look at it, eh?"

As she asks, anyone who looks at the thing can see it is clearly and utterly fried.

"Best case we find some other Basilisk and that bloody thing is all put together and the brains all good, but I doubt it, better chances we need to find at least some sophisticated tech from back then that might have the processing ability we need and I can structure together.. uh.. something," she shrugs.

[Garen Saxon]

"Alright. I can see that." Garen said, frowning with creased forehead, clearly considering the mechanical issues.

After a few moments, he shook his head, looking back at Veth. "And you think there might be something at the ruins? Have we got some idea of what's there?"

[Raven Cadera]

Raven gave the ancient cyberbrain a good look over too, though to her... it was just some old mechanical thingamabob. She just hoped she could recognize one of its kind if she did stumble across one and people like Garen weren't around to point out that it was indeed a cyberbrain.

Would be embarrassing to haul back some old swoop-bike engine instead.

[Veth Eldar]

"Not at kriffin' all," she says, snorting a laugh. Raising her arms up and gesturing vaguely to the room around her of torn apart broken down droids, bikes, and all sorts of otherwise unusable equipment. "But I ain't exactly a picker or a chooser on this one. Diggin' the bottom of every barrel I got- dad would be proud of my work ethic."

[Garen Saxon]

"Well then." Garen said, giving a shrug. "I guess we'll just have to see what we can do. Who knows? Maybe we'll find something more than just cyber-brain substitute parts."

He shrugged. "I've been trying optimism lately."

[Raven Cadera]

"Think it might be something the missing mechanic might know anything about?" Raven suggested as she looked to Garen.

[Garen Saxon]

"It's certainly worth asking." Garen said, shrugging. "If they were there first, they might have had enough of a look around to have spotted something that would work. And if not, they may know somewhere else on planet that we could find something."

[Veth Eldar]

"Mechanic might have a good sense of what's around- that's a good idea," she says, snapping her fingers in Raven's direction. "Be sure to take a good look at that brain and assorted gizmos alright? Would be good to know what you're lookin' for out there."

Garen and Raven will receive a Free Upgrade to any check made to determine what might be mechanically useful to Veth.

Raven nodded. "Yeah, will do." There was almost a chipper tone to her tone, maybe even enthusiasm. Sure, she knew pretty much nothing about this sort of stuff, but she was ready and willing to help out however she could.

[Garen Saxon]

"Sure thing." Garen said, giving a vague sort of wave. It wasn't a salute, not in any military sense. It was more the sort of wave a mechanic gave to another, mutual acknowledgement of each other, but also that they probably had other things to be working on.

He looked at the others, eyebrows raised. Did they need anything else?

[Veth Eldar]

"Oh, and hey- just be sure to take care of yourselves yea? Don't go gettin' killed over this out there," she says, setting down some of her things and preparing herself a little for a jaunt down to Jan. Not looking forward to having to explain this one for sure. With Jan she was bound to get an earful for not being more careful, blah blah blah. Veth melded back into her own world, letting the two see themselves out as they wished.
